Reasons not to go on the USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps now

Reasons not to go on the USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps now, especially on P55 chipsets
1)USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps is not native to P55 express chipset.
From what I know, USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps are currently available on some on the Asus and Gigabyte boards. They uses 3rd party party controller and chips from NEC and Marvell. Both Asus and Gigabyte have different ways of adopting USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps onto their board. Asus uses a bridge chip which makes use of 4 PCI-E 1.1 from the ICH10R providing the bandwidth for SATA 6Gbps(Mainly talking about SATA 6Gbps first). A bridge chip means more cost for the manufacturing of the board itself. Well on the Gigabyte side, they used an PCI-E x16 lane from the integrated PCI-E lanes in the processor itself, which means if you're using powerful graphics card on your PCI-E x16, there most likely will be a bottleneck. The technology on the P55 chipset motherboard is not perfect. So why pay for something that won't work well compared to say something that will be cheaper in the near future which makes all USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps native to the Intel chipset?

2)USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps are not mainstream. Of course USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps is blazingly fast. I'm very sure that with USB3.0, you can say byebye to firewire, the older USB 2.0. But with new revisions on the USB, version 3.0 needs new cable. New interface on the hardware side. This means your external hard disk drive need to be USB 3.0 compatible and currently on the market right now(when I'm writing this) , there is only ONE external hard drive that uses USB 3.0 interface. Other than that, is USB 3.0 really needed? Most conventional hard drives reads at maybe a speed of 200MB/s? USB 3.0 transfer data at 5Gb/s which is equals to 625 MB/s. See? No matter how fast USB 3.0, the maximum rate you're going to read from the drive will be 200MB/s. But from here, you can certainly see the huge difference compared to previous USB, the USB 2.0 which transfers at a maximum of 480Mb/s=60MB/s. Same thing for SATA 6Gbps. If you're not using extremely fast Solid State Drives that transfer at 250MB/s, no point getting SATA 6Gbps. 6Gbps=750MB/s. Who will reach that kind of speed? 100 solid state drives in Raid0?

I am starting to question the real need for SATA 6Gbps. I mean if everyone is going to use normal hard drives and get stuck there, SATA 1.0 is already enough for you. Come on people! Move on and get solid state drives! They are certainly worth the money now. It is future products that you are buying!

And by the way, in case you don't know, Intel is going to integrate USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps into their chipset only in 2011. AMD is coming up with their new chipsets very soon and I believe they will integrate USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps into their new SB chipsets. SB850 ftw! BUY AMD.

Intel VS AMD... again.

New P55 1156 motherboards are leaving out the new USB3.0 and Sata 6Gbps revisions to the current USB2.0 and Sata 2.0, other than motherboard from asus(P7P55D-E) and Gigabyte(P55A) which uses third party controllers. Today, I'm not going to talk about the new features of SATA 6Gbps nor am I going to talk about how fast USB 3.0 is. Let's give a forecast and possibilities that may come in the near future with the new technologies available(based on competition between AMD and Intel)

It is rumoured that Intel will not feature USB 3.0 until 2011. That is most likely that SATA 6Gbps will not be featured in Intel chipset motherboard in the near future(2010). Is it a wrong step for intel?

Here is an example. Ati VS Nvidia wars. With the new product line of series that ATI(AMD) came up, the 5000 series line of graphics card, ATI has won many customers over from Nvidia. Direct X11. Eyefinity Technology. And what is Nvidia doing? Giving rumours after rumours? Letting people anticipating for their new graphics card codename Fermi? Can't you see that it's a way of strategy for people to still have a last hope for Nvidia? Ati 5000 series card would have been matured by the time Fermi is out on sales. Would people go for something that is new and more expensive providing same performance over ATI Gfx cards? Die-Hard Nvidia fanboys will. But it all depends on how powerful Fermi really is and how they are priced.

You may be wondering why so much talking about fermi from Nvidia and the 5000 series line of graphics card from ATI?
Could this be the same for the AMD and Intel War?

AMD is coming out with their new 890FX and SB850 chipset. Focusing on the southbridge, Sb850 from AMD, we suppose that AMD will adopt the new USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps. Rumoured from Fudzilla that the new motherboard equipped with the new chipset from AMD will be available in the market from April 2010 onwards, could it be a direct blow or a slap in a face to Intel? SSDs in raid are bottlenecking the Sata 3Gbps. We really need the 6Gbps. Compared to a third party controller that does USB3.0 and SATA 6Gbps, will AMD emerge as winner with their new SB850? SB750 is bad. Really bad based on performance compared to intel's ICH10R. Could this be a turning point for AMD? SB850, it all depends on you.

When there is new technology, you should adopt it. Yes Intel. I'm telling you this. With more new products equipped with USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps, and finding out that they are not able to utilise the full bandwidth on your chipset, they will think again before going to choose Intel for their next build. Corei7s may be a formidable force. But so what? For normal computing you do not need so much power. Gamers also do not need so much power from a corei7. What bottlenecking the whole computer system today is hard drives! And when talking about them you are talking about southbridge chipset. You should stop thinking about how Intel fanboys will be loyal to you because all technogeeks alike out there would go for new technology asap when they are out. Your delay in SATA 6Gbps and USB3.0 is a great mistake.

AMD seems to be a formidable force. A united and powerful force ready for any battle.
Intel? Nvidia? So what there is the codename"Power of three" platform. P55 CPU with a Nvidia graphics card for the best performance? HAHA. Think what Nvidia is doing towards Intel first! Comic strips laughing at Intel. Think about yourself first Nvidia! Disorganised! Who would go for the power of 3 platform when both Nvidia and Intel don't see eye to eye with one another?
AMD with ATI platform. Best up to date with "dragon" platform. Extra technology using Fusion technology. AMD overdrive... Other features that make AMD and ATI look so great compared to competitors. I have great confidence that AMD will emerge victorious. But it depends on their new CPUs and new chipsets. Performance wise and price wise, compared to intel's.

Review:Kyogre

Check out beonnan's computer!

Almost based on AMD's dragon platform technology(well, this computer uses a 4770 graphics card, not a 4800 series, so can't really call it dragon platform based. However a 4770 is about the performance of a 4850, so its actually about the same), Kyogre promises performance. It's a multitasker. A quad core CPU running at 2.6GHz. AMD processors from the Athlon II and Phenom II line are great overclockers. They do not run as hot than their previous generations and I'm sure that you can get at least 3.0GHz stable on this processor with the stock cooler. This build is also L3 cache unlocked, which means it is almost identical to the more expensive Phenom II lineup of CPUs, providing the identical performances if overclocked to the frequencies of respective Phenom II processors.

Kyogre is equipped with Biostar TA790GXE 128M Motherboard, 790GX northbridge chipset from AMD, together with 750SB Southbridge chipset providing the best performance for value. The motherboard is future proof with 2 PCI-E x16 slots and can make use of Ati Crossfire X technology if more graphics processing power is needed for the future. The motherboard also has 4 ddr2 dimm slots and currently only uses 2. Future memory upgrades are made possible.

The NZXT Apollo black Chassis needs no introduction. It really looks good. It can be equipped with 3 fans, one at the front, one at the back, and one from the side to cool your graphics card. It only provides one fan at the side panel and the rest of the two fans are optional.

Ati radeon 4770 is the world's first graphics card that makes use of the 40nm manufacturing technology. The die being smaller, it is overclocks very well as produces much less heat compared to the graphics card which is manufactured by a larger die size technology.

Kingston 800MHz DDR2 RAM 2GB X2- Best performance for the value with the skyrocketing costs of DDR2 prices as it's the time to change to DDR3s.

LG 22x DVD Writer- I really do mean it. There's nothing special. It writes DVD at 22x. It reads CDs and DVDs. It writes CDs too....

AMD Athlon II X4 620- At a stock frequency of 2.6GHz, you have the potential to go beyond the 3GHz barrier. Just a little bit of tweaking in the BIOS, L3 cache unlocked, meaning it is as good as a Phenom II line up of processor which is almost 2 times the cost of the Athlon II 620. Do you know that the Athlon II 620 is the cheapest Quad core processor in the market right now?

This is the first computer system that I've actually reviewed. More coming right up! Stay tuned!

How to: Unlocking the AMD Athlon II X4 620

Using the Biostar TA790GXE 128M, I can unlock the AMD Athlon II X4 620 to enable 6MB of L3 cache on the processor.
6MB L3 cache unlocked= low frequency Phenom II
+ a little bit of overclock you are about to get a processor that is about one time more expensive that the Athlon IIs, the Phenom IIs.

www.techgeeksg.blogspot.com :"Check out the video on youtube I've made teaching you how to unlock AMD Athlon II X4 620 so as to get an extra 6MB of L3 cache! With an extra 6MB of L3 cache, you'll have about the same performance as the more expensive Phenom II line of products from AMD which are much more expensive. With a little bit more overclocking, you're good to go!"

Rig almost done

My next rig is almost done! Shall show it to you guys out there once its completed. I said I wanted to go with Intel's core i7 but I backed out. Corei7... Futureproof? 1156 or 1366 already shows how intel's processors does not care much about backwards compatibility. AMD's am2 to am2+ to am3, all backwards compatible. Even their future processor, the 6-core thuban runs am3. Corei7's gulftown cpu on 1366? guess so..

Excuses but the real reason behind the decision on getting AMD's AM3 platform is because of crossfire. Dragon platform looks good. You can do pci-e 2.0 at x16,x16,x8,x8 with 790fx chipset=quadfire. I7? Really nothing much. 1366, x16,x16,x4(if i'm not wrong). Well its because I've got myself an am3 motherboard first, that's why I'm settling with AMD.

I believe everyone may have the problem of choosing processors. AMD or Intel? Cost for performance wise, I will go AMD. If what you want is performance and not care about cost, go for the i7s from intel. I must admit that Intel is able to get more people buying products because of their brand. Many have heard Intel, but AMD?

Specs for RIG
1)AMD Phenom II X4 965-C3
2)RAM-undecided
3)XFX Ati Radeon 5770 in crossfire
4)CM690
5)Creative titanium
6)Creative T6160
7)OCZ ModXtream-Pro 600

8) MSI's 790fx-gd70

9)CM V8

And so on...

Hope can earn more $$ finish the build first! HOHO

5800 Series Craze

Just thinking of it makes me unable to sleep.

ATI/AMD HAS JUST CAME OUT WITH THE NEW 5870 and 5850 coming soon in this week!

Actually I really have to agree with Nvidia that increased framerates don't really improve a gamer's experience. It's things like Nvidia 3D Vision, Ati's Eyefinity that creates a revolutionary change in gaming experience.

Eyefinity is available on the new 5800series graphics card. What does it do? It allows you to play at a super large resolution. How? By extending your desktop with multiple monitors(of course you would need multiple monitors to do something like that).

A picture speaks louder than words

Gaming with 6 lcd screens. That's how you'll feel.

How about a paranomic view of google earth? Wave right up to the satellite camera and you may just see yourself there on your computer(provided that you have a really big hand)

EYEFINITY FOR THE WIN!

The AMD fanboy decided to move on to intel

Looking at the fact that the core i7 920 has got lots of headroom for overclocking, I have decided to base my next build on x58 chipset, Socket LGA1366 Core I7 instead of the AMD 790FX chipset. Firstly, ICH10R Southbridge chipset owns the SB750. Looking at the fact that I'm using 2 SSDs in Raid 0, ICH10R would be preferred.

The benchmark for I7 920 after overclocking could even be better than 965(which costs a bomb). I7 920 is just 30 over bucks more than the phenom ii955. Of course, I would go for the I7 920.
Why Rampage II Extreme? Simply because of one thing. The Supreme FX soundcard given with the MB itself would be good looking(with the blue led lighting it up) with the case-cm690 pure.

Both SLI and Crossfire enabled. Why not? But it's really costly i must say.

Just got myself the CM690 pure and V8 CPU cooler. The next build's going to be IMBA. Not yet decided on which graphics card to get. Let's see what the next gen of ati 5000 series card can do and how much they costs first. Coming out with Win7 I think. After I5 comes out with the 1156 processors and I5 comes out next week then i'll decide again. But its either lynnfield or bloomfield. BYEBYE AMD. Hmmm. Cool eh?

Pictures up next! goodies from simlim

HTC Magic VS. HTC Touch

It has been really some time since I last did a review. The previous time was when techyouon.bs.com was still alive? But since there's this blogging competition which entitles me to a chance to win a HTC Magic phone, why not try reviewing products again? It's what I want to do after the O Levels anyway.
HTC Magic VS. your 1st ever mobile phone
My 1st ever mobile phone? I've got my hands on a white HTC Touch as my first phone. My first phone wasn't a phone that did not have a colour screen because well, I'm only sixteen and no one uses a phone without a colour screen that time already! HTC touch, the P3452 elfin compared to the HTC magic. What's the advancements in technology now compared to 2 years back?
From what I think, what really makes the MAGIC for HTC Magic is still Google's Android OS on it. Google Android OS FTW. Compared to Windows Mobile 6.0 that the HTC touch is running on, Google Android simply KILLS Windows mobile 6. But at least windows mobile 6.5 works better now, but I'll still go for Google Android. Google Android Graphical User Interface's simplicity is so much better than all the current mobile operating system out there on the market. Triumps over symbian, iphone's,sony ericsson's, windows mobile .etc Best GUI I've seen yet. Good job google!
HTC MAGIC VS HTC TOUCH ---1:0
HTC Magic is the successor of the HTC Dream which was also known as the G1 phone. With the fact that quite a new phone, it is simply a lot better than the HTC touch based on specification wise. The touchscreen of the HTC Magic is larger than my HTC Touch. HTC Magic features a
3.2 inch touch LCD screen with a 320x480 resolution. HTC touch only has a 2.8 inch and a 240x320 reolution. What that means? HTC Magic has a better display compared to the HTC touch. The technology making the Magic display is LCD which gives you a perfect experience watching videos and viewing photos. Touch sensitive really means touch sensitive for the HTC Magic. From various videos about the HTC magic viewed on the internet, the HTC magic certainly has a touch screen that is more sensitive that the HTC touch and comparable to the badass Apple's Iphone. When scrolling through contacts, you'll get the experience of pushing a paper upwards and really viewing it like it was real. Great job HTC! It's a lot better as seen compared to my previous HTC touch!
HTC MAGIC VS HTC TOUCH ---2:0
Processor wise, HTC magic has one of the most recent processor. It runs at a higher frequency compared to the HTC Touch's OMAP processor, and with the new processor, you will be sure that the HTC magic will not let you down. Lagless free experience on HTC Magic. It surely will work better than the HTC touch.
HTC MAGIC VS HTC TOUCH ---3:0
With a 3:0 lead for the HTC magic, here is something which I would like to give the HTC touch a thumbs up. Everyone wants to be special. Well, I'm not saying that if you're using the HTC Magic, you're not special, but the fact that you're using an android phone, you're special. HTC touch has got this very special interface called the TouchFlo Interface. Where you get to slide from the bottom of the screen to the top, and comes up a new User Interface. A great looking interface I must specify. Ease of access to the HTC touch. Songs, photos, contacts etc can all be easily access from the TouchFlo interface. Android phones are basically almost the same, except there may be other HTC software included, but if you're talking about a distinct feature that outstands the HTC Magic, I would say the TouchFlo User. SPECIAL EH!
But Google android is still very cool!
HTC MAGIC VS HTC TOUCH ---3:1
Other than that, HTC Touch is incomparable to the HTC Magic.
3.2 Megapixel camera with auto focus compared to a 2 Megapixel Camera(of course the feature which is better belongs to the Magic).
HTC MAGIC VS HTC TOUCH ---4:1
Magic(116grams) only weighs 4 grams more than the HTC touch despite it being a lot more powerful than the HTC Touch(112grams).
HTC MAGIC VS HTC TOUCH ---5:1
Internal GPS antenna for the Magic which lacks in the Touch. This ensures that you can use Google Map without any problems. Find out routes to get to your destination in the shortest time.
HTC MAGIC VS HTC TOUCH ---6:1
A lot a lot more.
For the Magic, I would say that with the android operating system, the possibilities of doing anything on your phone is infinite. Because it is on android, this means that there is a large community out there developing applications just for the android platform. Better still, because google android is an open-source software, everyone will get to download many applications free! Lack some feature in the android? Just google search(Best search engine yet) and you may find what you want! Its harder to do something like this on windows mobile. I need to pay for many applications.
HTC MAGIC VS HTC TOUCH ---67138837:1
Results:Magic PWNED TOUCH!
You can expect this. Well, HTC Magic is a successor of the HTC touch. Of course it should be better!
I don't mind getting my hands on an android, especially when the manufacturer is reliable and familiar to me! Maybe my next handset upgrade? I'LL GET ONE FOR SURE!
The white one is nicer. But the black one looks cool too! Which should I get?! OMG. WHITE!
And besides, the google android logo is cute.

FAQ

What's with the interest in computer?
When I was younger, I was stuck to a old celeron running at 366MHz running windows 98 in times of the pentium IVs. I had to work myself to get things compatible, get things done on my celeron machine. With internet connection, I started researching on things about computers and soon became interested about it. The interest grew as I got my new Tablet PC in 2006, which allowed me to run the most up to date programs at that time, and I was exposed even more to computers when I finally built my first computer in 2008. It was a Athlon X2 5000

Hey! I've got new Asus N10 notebook!

Here are the specs.

Intel Atom processor N270, supposedly running at 1.60GHz, but overclocked it to 2.0GHz.

Actually a 160 Seagate harddrive, but changed it into a 30GB OCZ solid series Solid State Drive.

Integrated Nvidia Geforce 9300GS with 256MB of graphics memory.

1GB of DDR2 Memory, but upgrading to 2 GB.

Windows Vista Business

10.1" LCD Screen

Expressgate-instant boot up OS in 5 seconds!

It is rare to see a 10.1" running on atom processor to get a vista score of 3.5.
The SSD maxed out the score for "primary hard drive" attaining score of 5.9
Memory got me 4.5, which is quite a high score.
Geforce 9300M GS scored a high score of 5.3 and 4.7 which is high! Asus N10 can be used for gaming!
Limiting factor, the atom n270, capping the vista experience index score at 3.0 initally, but after overclocking, a score of 3.5.
