Nvidia does it again!

NVIDIA not long ago released their new drivers version 196.75 and it came out to be perfect. These drivers can allow you to cook an egg on top of the graphics card because it seems that these drivers are overheating the card, bringing down the fps in games. Nvidia has done it again! A revolutionary change in 3D gaming which brings cooking an egg possible with a graphics card!

Quoted from ZDnet:
WARNING! NVIDIA 196.75 drivers can kill your graphics card
I’m getting a steady stream of reports in from NVIDIA users that the latest 196.75 drivers can cause severe cooling problems, even possibly resulting in the death of the hardware.

The problem seems to be related to the fan controller, causing the fans to slow down, and even stop. This happening while the card is in use is a very bad thing indeed, and can cause poor performance (as the GPU tries to cool itself down by reducing power) and possibly even overheat your GPU to the point where the card stops working.

NVIDIA 196.75 drivers were released on March 2nd, and have now been removed from the download site. If you are running these drivers it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you uninstall this driver and immediately downgrade to the 196.21 drivers.

Here’s the official statement from NVIDIA:

We are aware that some customers have reported fan speed issues with the latest 196.75 WHQL drivers on NVIDIA.com. Until we can verify and root cause this issue, we recommend that customers stay with, or return to 196.21 WHQL drivers. Release 196.75 drivers have been temporarily removed from our Web site in the meantime.

If in the past few days you’re upgraded your NVIDIA drivers and your PC has since died (and you’re somehow reading this …) then this could be the cause of your problems. I’ve already received several reports from gaming enthusiasts who claim that their systems died shortly after installing these drivers, which while not conclusive, is certainly enough indication to me that these drivers could be very toxic and should be avoided.

And guess what? The others are paying the price.

Chinese group file complaint over faulty HP laptops
Wed Mar 10, 4:39 am ET

SHANGHAI (Reuters) – More than 100 Chinese consumers have filed an official complaint against Hewlett-Packard Co over faulty laptop computers, leaving the door open for a lawsuit against the U.S. technology company, a lawyer for the group said on Wednesday.

Jiang Suhua, a lawyer at Yingke Law Firm in Beijing, told Reuters the complaint centered on video cards which overheated and caused the laptop to malfunction.

He said that around 170 Chinese sent the complaint on Friday to the country's quality control watchdog agency, General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

Jiang said the problems dated back as far as 2007 in some cases.

When contacted by Reuters, HP said in a statement it had a program in November 2007 to offer a free repair for customers with affected HP notebooks. It declined to comment directly on the complaint.

Jiang said the group wanted the government to investigate and order HP to recall all faulty laptops in China.

"Yes, we can bring it to court, but right now it has not reached that stage," he said.

HP generates more than three-fifths of its revenue outside its U.S. home base. Last month, it said sales from fast-growing emerging countries Brazil, Russia, India and China leapt 41 percent from a year ago.

Do you know why the sudden increase in complains? And reports from other sources specifically stated they were nvidia graphics card. It shouldn't be HP's fault. Those people should have downloaded the new NVIDIA drivers causing the overheating issue and pushing the blame to HP. Guess what. NVIDIA is "Paying the PC manufacturer" to resolve their problems. Way to go.
